A little about the restaurant...

Redwood Cafe opened in 1994. Moose & Michael met in San Francisco while working together at Perry's Union Street. They found themselves attracted to the Northbay as they started their families. They have been friends for the last 30 years.

About the owners....

Mustapha 'Moose' Jamal

Looking for a better future, Mustapha left his beloved home town of Tyre, Lebanon for the University Of San Francisco. Needing a job, he found a new passion for the service industry when he landed at Perry's restaurant. Starting as a dishwasher, Moose worked hard to move up in the ranks eventually earning the manager position. While working there he met his late wife Mary. They married in 1988 and started their family. Moose has two daughters Julia and Jenan who have both worked at Redwood Cafe. After co-owning the Redwood Cafe for many years, Moose embarked on a new project by taking over one of Cotati's oldest Mexican restaurants, now known as Cafe Salsa. It is conveniently located two doors down from Redwood Cafe! Moose enjoys spending time with his daughters, family, friends and all of his many customers.

Michael McCullaugh

Michael loves working with people which attracted him to the hospitality industry, more specifically the restaurant business. For the last 18 years, Michael has enjoyed the diversity of people that move through Redwood Cafe. Now as an empty nester, he is looking to give back to the community that has supported Redwood Cafe for nearly two decades.
Born in Portadown in Northern Ireland, Michael's educational background is in engineering as a tool and die maker. He loves spending time with his family and he is a fanatical outdoorsman. In his spare time he can be found hiking, mountain biking, golfing, and skiing. He and Lesley have two sons, Conor & Sean, and live in Petaluma.

Lesley McCullaugh

Lesley is from Manchester, England. She moved to the US in the early eighties. She met Michael soon after and they were married in 1989. They have two sons, Conor and Sean both of whom you may have seen working behind the counter at the Redwood. Lesley spent her early years in England working in the hospitality industry and upon her arrival in the States she worked briefly as the quintessential British nanny. Lesley can now be found managing Aqus Cafe in Petaluma which she and Michael also co-own. On Saturday nights Lesley enjoys hanging out and watching the live music at Redwood. In her spare time Lesley loves to read, shop, watch movies and urban hike. She also loves to spend quality time with her friends and family.
