    Formed in 2014, Soul Ska is a Bay Area collective dedicated to keeping ska & rocksteady music alive. The 10 piece group is comprised of veteran members of many well known Bay Area bands such as Vinyl, Monophonics, Stymie & the Pimp Jones Love Orchestra, The Right Time, Albino!, El Radio Fantastique, Jethro Jeremiah Band and more.
          Drawing equally from the original Jamaican first wave as well as the British second wave, Soul Ska has a rootsy, upbeat sound that leans heavily on vocal harmony as well as a full horn section. Over the last three years Soul Ska has become a Bay Area favorite and played rousing sets for large festival crowds at Sierra Nevada World Music Festival (Mendocino), Ocean Beach Fest (SF), Summer Arts & Music (Humboldt), Fairfax Festival, Muir Beach Fireman's BBQ and more.
          Soul Ska has had the pleasure of supporting legendary acts such as Yellowman, Don Carlos, Capleton, Zulu Spear, Israel Vibrations, Fishbone, Third World and is honored to open for The English Beat January 12, 2018 at SF's Independent. Soul Ska will celebrate the release of their debut album “Propaganda” produced by David Simon Baker (Jackie Greene/ALO/Mother Hips) March 23, 2018 at SF's Great American Music Hall.     The Hot Licks perform classic gems written by the Man himself as well as songs that Dan Hicks loved to cover in his own original style. A blend of Gypsy Jazz, Folk and Swing. The Hot Licks, Dan’s final band, toured for over 10 years with “Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks”. They are dedicated to preserving the original sound and spirit of the group and continue to carry the banner for folk-swing and gypsy jazz, with his particular sound, style and harmonies that have inspired so many others.

    The Hot Licks have recorded, performed and toured internationally with Dan Hicks, Maria Muldaur, David Sanborn, Harry Shearer, Charlie Musselwhite, Ray Benson, Tuck and Patti, Dave Grisman, Bob Dorough, Ricki Lee Jones, Diana Krall, Bonnie Raitt, Elvis Costello,  Tuck and Patti, Dave Grisman, Hot Club of San Francisco, Joe Sample, Lawrence Hobgood, Christian McBride among others. They have appeared at major venues in Japan, Montreux Jazz, Telluride Jazz, SFJazz, Yoshi’s, Freight and Salvage, City Winery, Sweetwater and numerous performing arts centers, clubs and festivals across the USA.

    Dan passed away on Feb. 6, 2016. The Hot Licks have since performed at The Fenix, San Rafael, CA, The State Theatre, Auburn, CA, Armandos, Martinez, CA, Sweetwater, Mill Valley, the WAA in Seattle, WA and their “Holidaze in Hicksville” show at Yoshi’s, Oakland, CA December 2017.

Rand’s vocal styling is all her own: “magical andluxuriant, like the best brandy in the world" (-No Depression). Her songshave been called “Nothing short of brilliant,” by Santa Rosa Press Democrat. “JoanneRand’s voice raises your hair. Elegance and fierceness in the same deepbreath,” writes poet Gary Snyder. Rand’s 2015 & 2016 CDs both made the folkDJ most-played-list nationwide and are receiving worldwide airplay. 

    Bornand bred in the Deep South, Rand has performed in Manhattan, L.A., Toronto,Atlanta, Seattle, Hawaii, Alaska & the Amazon. A North Bay readers’ pollonce voted her “Best Acoustic Band.” Based in rural Northern California, with aBFA in music composition, she has performed alongside such greats as BonnieRaitt, Micky Hart, John Hartford, John Trudell, Dougie McLean.

    Rob Diggins isa principal violinist with the Portland Baroque Orchestra, Musica AngelicaBaroque Orchestra and San Francisco’s Magnificat and will be showing off hisfusion, folk, world music and psychedelic rock chops as well as his classicalvirtuosity.

    Electric guitarist, Piet Dalmolen is owner-operator and recording wizard at UniversalBalance Studios in Arcata. He is a founding member of the long-livedRock/Funk/Psychedelic Jam band Nucleus and currently plays in multiple touringbands as well as solo. “The Piet Dalmolen lead guitar shines with somany colorful notes it makes the song moving again like the first time youheard it.”(No Depression 2016)

    Gailene Elliott (aka Gailene Grillo) has been a sought-after studio vocalist and “live” performer in The Bay Area for the past 30 years. At 26 she joined the Sonoma County favorite band, The Mix, and played every special occasion and holiday at the Cotati Cabaret, as well as all of the top clubs throughout the bay area and California. She has been involved full-time in many music projects and studio recordings since then, and currently (Gailene just finished The vocals on the trailer and the soundtrack of the documentary “Ruminations“ by Rob James).

    Gailene also works as a Voice and Performance coach for novices and pros alike. The group of performers range from beginners to professional musicians who are tightening up their act!

    Cúlarán (Irish Gaelic for pignut; Scots Gaelic for cucumber) plainly takes itself very very seriously as purveyors of mainly Irish music. Based in Berkeley, the group offers rowdy and reverent mixes of traditional songs and tunes, along with original pieces, on mandolin, concertina, fiddle, guitar, whistles, and bones. As seasoned céilí musicians, they’re always game to supply sets for dancers.
